Copywriting – 5 Steps To Prepare

By Brian Terry on Thursday, July 24th, 2008

You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed if you're new here. Thanks for visiting!

What sells your product? Too many people build a website with graphics, thinking they will get the attention of prospects that will turn into buyers.

Now graphics may get attention, but it’s the words that sell, not the graphics.

However, most people don’t know how to write to sell on the internet. There’s a big difference between writing copy and writing copy that sells. Before an inexperienced writer puts pen to paper, they should follow these 5 steps to prepare.

  1. The first key to writing successful copy is to understand the mindset of your customer. Become your customer. It’s not as easy as it sounds because you see things from your point of view. You must learn what your reader wants and needs.

When you do this then you can stay a step ahead of your readers and answer their questions to solve their problem.

  2. Get to know your product well.

You are making a big mistake if you assume you know your product and you haven’t checked every little detail of your product.

  3. Get to know your niche by viewing other websites. Subscribe to ezines and get all the information you can to make yourself an expert.
  4. Get to know your competition.

Subscribe to their newsletters and study the benefits that they have in their sales copy. Do they have a benefit you haven’t thought of?

Check out their prices and bonuses.  Knowing your competition will allow you to offer better benefits and write a better sales copy.

  5. Find you target market, people who actually want and need your product.

Your ideal customer can be found by making a list of people who would benefit from your product. After you have identified you target market, you can now write specifically to those people. What benefit does you product offer that will solve their problems.

The best person to write your sales copy is you. You’re the one with the product knowledge and passion for your subject. Copywriting is turning this knowledge and passion into words on the page. Your success depends on how well you prepare.

Centralize, Systemetize then Monetize

By Brian Terry on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

csm Centralize, Systemetize then Monetize

Did you know that… there are 3 essential components you need to begin using right away to become “super” successful online?

The problem I see every day is how people go online, set up a website then fail to earn a dime.

And most of the time it’s because they’re not using these 3 essential components within their online business.

If you’ve read this far after reading the title of this post you’ve probably already guessed what those 3 things are.

But do you know what they mean? or even how to apply them to your online business?

Let me explain in 3 easy steps…

Step 1: Centralize

Here’s where so many people go wrong!

They use the scatter gun approach to running their online business. So usually they’ll have one resource here, another over there, then one more around the back. Each one needs a username and password to access.

Can you see the problem with this approach? Look at how much time is wasted jumping from one website to another just to be able to run your online business.

Centralization of your resources is the solution. There are many ways of doing this. The most obvious is to use an online ecommerce solution which has many of the tools you use already built into one place.

For example with a centralized ecommerce solution your autoresponders, your affiliate programme and your customer management systems are all in one place. There’s just 1 login to access all your “mission critical” data.

Step 2: Systemetize

When you systemetize the way you work online everything gets done quicker and more efficiently. Another way to look at systemetization is by creating set procedures for the tasks you do on a regular basis.

To find out exactly what you need to systemetize just write down everything you do online for at least 3 days.

The 3 Ages of Internet Marketing

By Brian Terry on Monday, June 2nd, 2008

As soon as Joe got connected to the internet he could feel it’s potential and was able to spot money making opportunities wherever he went…

All he ever saw were the banner ads and links to other website offering something to sell. After investigating this some more he discovered affiliate marketing, this was how he too could add banner ads and links to his own website.

What he didn’t know was he was about to enter the age of the “money making banners and links”. I’m sure you’ve seen those websites, they’re usually hosted by some free hosting company that also gives you free website templates. Most of the time these free websites pages are eventually filled up with banner ads and money making links… That’s exactly what Joe did next.

As Joe continues to expand his “banner and link farming website” empire it slowly dawns on him that he physically can’t create enough websites, or create enough links to make anything beyond his $300 a month.

You see what was happening was as the links and the banners he was setting up began failing, the companies he promoted were slowly going out of business or they ended their affiliate program. So it was always a race for him to keep on adding banners and links all day long, just to stay afloat.

Then after reading an ebook about private label right products he saw the light! Joe immediately knew his next step… sell his own product.

So he hunted around and found a product to sell that was just right for him, not only did he get a ready made product but he also got the sale letter and website already designed for him.

All he had to do was put his name on it all, get some hosting, buy a domain name, hook it up to PayPal and he was in business… bingo!

As soon as he had done this he entered the age of “ready made products in a box”.

As Joe began setting up PPC (pay per click) ad campaigns and using other marketing techniques he began to break through his $300 a month income barrier from the previous age. Now he was hitting $1,000 a month easily, just from the sale of this one product he didn’t even create himself!

After investing in Marlon Sanders Cash Like Clockwork course he then understood that there’s an even more powerful way to profit online… create your own “series” of products within one niche, with one broad subject at it’s core.

In this age all Joe’s websites now have a unique and very distinctive look and feel to them that communicates quality. It was then that Joe entered the age of “network of product websites” .

This is by far the most powerful of all the ages Joe has entered. Within a period of 6 month he expanded his business 10 fold. He now has 6 unique products under his belt that he created, he has a network of affiliates promoting his product for him 24/7. He has joint venture partners lined up ready to promote his next creation. And now his income is only limited by his imagination.

So where do you see yourself? Which age are you in right now? How quickly can you move the the 3rd age of “network of product websites”? What other ages come next? It doesn’t stop here…

Here are the resources that helped Joe move through each age…

Become A Genius Website Designer

By Brian Terry on Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

It doesn’t require years of training, it doesn’t even require years of “hands on” web design experience (of course these things do help!).

However… there’s a shortcut to becoming a “genius” website designer I’d like to reveal to you that not enough people take advantage of…

Let me ask you this… how many times have you visited a website that looks like a “rabid dog” chewed it up and spat it out again? If you’re anything like me once too often, am I right?

If only they knew this shortcut to website design they’d have better success online selling or promoting whatever it is they’re offering…

This approach to becoming a genius website designer is so deceptively simple, you might even think “I knew that already!”. If that’s you my reply would be… why aren’t you doing it?

With that said, here are the ingredients needed…

1. A copy of Adobe Photoshop or GIMP
Adobe Photoshop CS2 (even the older version is fine)
GIMP 2.4 (works much like Photoshop except it’s free)

2. A copy of Adobe Dreamweaver or NVU
Adobe Deamweaver CS3 (Professional level HTML editor)
NVU (A simple “pro” standard HTML editor that’s free)

3. A website hosting account
DotEasy (They offer both free and paid hosting accounts)

4. Here’s where your website design genius can be found…

Go here now…

Your personal genius comes through your leveraging of the design skills of others who already have the knowledge and the ability you need to take your project to the next level.

All you do is purchase high quality website templates designed by a professional website designer. Then use the tools I’ve given you above to adapt those designs to suite your purpose.

Ok, it’s not “literally” turning you into a “genius” website designer, but what it does do is it gets you to a point where you don’t even need to think about how to design a website (isn’t that genius enough?).

How Inverse Paranoia Can Help You Build A Successful Website

By Brian Terry on Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Here’s all you do…

Whenever you build a website always believe that what you’re building will be successful. Have an expectation for success as you build each web page believe that the universe is conspiring “for” you to help make this happen… that’s inverse paranoia!

As you’re designing your website in Photoshop, as you’re converting your design to HTML always have in your mind that every action you take is exactly the right one that will lead to your ultimate success.

Positive expectation combined with inverse paranoia is extremely powerful and works every time without fail.

Make sure your expectations are in line with what you want to have happen and guard them carefully.

Imagine as you’re creating your websites, creating your products, looking for new ideas that everything is conspiring to help you succeed. Even when things don’t go right know that it happened for a reason that ultimately benefits you (even if you can’t see it right now).

The fact is you can never rise any higher than the expectations you have of yourself …so expect the best from every situation, expect that the website you’re building is going to be a total success, expect your products to be great, expect your ideas will be the best and most profitable ever!

By following this law of inverse paranoia and positive expectation you have a power in your hands that is virtually unlimited.

Go ahead and try this out now!

Imagine your desired outcome for your next website design project and keep this in your mind as you create and complete your project.

You’ll find your results will be nothing less than spectacular! It works for me and it can work for you too! Let me know how you get on wont you?

How to Create High Profit Margin Products

By Brian Terry on Friday, April 11th, 2008

Following on from the 4 steps to a big selling website where I reveal exactly what it take to create a big selling website I’d like to expand on step 2 which is all about creating a product to sell with a high profit margin.

There seems to be a belief surrounding product creation that it’s actually hard to do or it takes months and months of blood sweat and tears to get there. I’m here to tell you it’s easier than you think and creating a product with a high profit margin is no different.

First lets take a look at what’s meant by a “high profit margin”…

This is nothing more than you buying or creating something for a ultra low cost and selling it for a price where your profit is very high. As I’m sure you know only too well it’s digitally downloadable products that can generate the most profits.

And it’s those digital products that are the easiest to create when you know how.

A digital product is anything you can give to people with a perceived value that they can download from your website to their computer, what this can be is limited only by your imagination.

So what high profit margins can you create that you can offer to your hungry market with money to spend?

The simplest and the easiest answer is “just ask them”. Ask them what kind of problems they have that relate to the niche market you’re going after. All you do then is provide them with a solution, again it’s all very simple.

Top 10 Posts To A Big Selling Website

By Brian Terry on Friday, April 4th, 2008

I’ve just gotten back from a fantastic vacation to Vienna with my wife Tatiana. Out of all the European cities we’ve visited Vienna is easily the best! There’s lots to see and do, it’s extremely clean and the people are really friendly and welcoming.

We stayed at this excellent hotel called K+K Maria Theresia. If ever you find yourself in a major European city we highly recommend them as a place to stay.

After just stepping in through the door of our apartment for the first time in nearly a week and firing up my trusty Mac I go to thinking how can I best help you create a big selling website (after being totally shattered from the journey home).

Since starting this blog I’ve been able to help you with things like creating profitable website ideas, techniques on helping you convert more visitors into customers and of course generating web traffic itself. So what I decided to do was give you the links to the top 10 posts that help you create a big selling website… as voted by you.

Who Else Wants This Free Pay Per Click Website Traffic?

By Brian Terry on Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

There’s no doubt about it Pay Per Click (PPC) traffic is the quickest way of getting targeted traffic to your website.

However, as with anything in business there’s a cost involved which in the case of PPC you have to pay for every click you receive to your website.

Even if you’re just starting out I’d like you give careful consideration to using PPC traffic generation as a way of building your list and profits fast. The only downside is it can be expensive for you to learn the ropes (which might have been what’s put you off before).

If this is you I’ve got something here that’s going to help you get started with generating PPC traffic at a fraction of the cost (maybe even for free)…

Here’s a list of 6 pay per click search engines that are giving away traffic (or reducing it’s cost significantly) to help you get started….

1. Yahoo Search Marketing
Yahoo search started out back in 1997 as GoTo.com then became Overture in 2005 and was rebranded as Yahoo Search Marketing who now reach over 80% of all Internet users.

When you create an account with them you’ll get a $50 credit coupon.

2. MIVA
MIVA is a network of partner sites that power 24 billion searches each year. With MIVA you get a full suite of ROI tools to help you get the most value from your ad campaigns.

What I recommend you do is to use these smaller PPC search engines to test out your PPC ads because the cost per click for the keywords you choose is usually less than the bigger players.

3. Enhance Interactive
Just like MIVA Enhance Interactive receives around 24 billon searches a year and have their own network of partner sites.

This is another PPC search engine you need to use as a way of testing your ads before you scale things up with the bigger search engines (like Google AdWords and Yahoo Search).

Your Website Traffic: 7 Crucial Reasons Why You Should Be “Squidooing”

By Brian Terry on Thursday, March 13th, 2008

A short time ago word started spreading about a brand new site called Squidoo, I’m sure you’ve heard of it.

It sounded like an interesting concept, a little like a blog and a little like an “About Me” page, they asked you to sign up and create something called a “lens”.

It was certainly a unique idea, and everyone wondered if it would catch on.

Now more than 2 years later the true benefits of building a lens at Squidoo are clear. It is a great place to create a new site about your hobby, passion or business, but even more it is a great place to promote any existing web site you may have.

Not only can you tell Squidoo visitors about your site, but a lens gives the search engines another reason to place your site higher on the results pages. In fact creating and running a Squidoo lens is an excellent way to build “backlinks” to your blog or web site.

That’s just what the search engine spiders love to see.

Here are the 7 crucial reasons why you should be squidooing:

  1. You can use a Squidoo lense to help you build your subscriber list by sending people to your squeeze pages
  2. Build an authoratitive resource of links to useful websites which makes your lense a resource people want to use and tell others about
  3. Create lots of deep links to the pages of your other websites (search engines love this)
  4. Dominate long tail keyword phrases in the major search engines
  5. Build traffic to your other websites blog and online auctions with your external linking
  6. Brand you and your websites as an authority figure within your chosen niche market
  7. Sell more of your products and build multiple streams of internet income

How To Unleash the Hidden Power of Website Linking

By Brian Terry on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

I’m sure you’ll agree that without traffic your website is nothing more than pixels on a screen. So over the next few weeks I’ve decided to focus on helping you increase the amount of traffic your website gets, so be sure not to miss a single post!

Today I’m going to start with building links in to your website.

It sounds like the simplest thing in the world. Just find someone with a site that has content similar to your own and strike a deal, “You place a link to me on your web site and I’ll place a link to you on mine.”

There was a time when this could be an effective way to generate traffic to your site as well as improve your search engine ranking. But for the most part, those times are gone.

Unscrupulous web masters figured out how to abuse the system by creating link farms and other schemes with absolutely no benefit for the site visitors, and search engines got smart and put an end to the whole thing.

So can’t we benefit from reciprocal links anymore? Sure we can, but with a few caveats. This post will explore how safe linking practices can still help your site gain traffic, and do better in the search engine results pages.

So as you may have already guessed, search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN are skeptical about two-way links.
