Just the other day I was visiting a well known online marketing forums and I found myself reading one post after another from people struggling to create a successful website.
You know there has to be some fundamental underlying reasons why so many people just don’t “get it” and just fail.
The fact of the matter is most people who go online to make money never even make a single penny, and those that do usually end up making less than $100 a year. (I should know because several years back I was one of them, until I discovered where I was going wrong.)
I’m hoping that what I’m about to reveal will set the record straight and keep you from making the same mistakes I made.
Let’s take a look at the possible reasons for online business failure…
No product to sell or promote?
That can’t be it… there are thousands of products and services available on the internet for people to affiliate with and promote. For example I run a Big Selling Affiliate program that shows you what you need to do and gives you products to promote and make money from.
There’s a ton of software, e-books and programs available to teach you how to promote products and services.
In some cases all you have to do is implement the steps you’re shown, send traffic to their website and you’re ready to start making money.
Lack of knowledge?
That can’t be it, there is so many e-books and programs available on the internet that tell you anything you want to know and how to do it, that you get too much information.
Even for a beginner, there are programs that show you how to copy exactly what someone else has done and sell their product without learning anything. Why not become a Big Selling Intern and I’ll show you exactly step-by-step what you need to do, this is a perfect example of how anyone can get started for free.
The Internet doesn’t really work?
Wrong again, the internet is growing at a fantastical rate and is predicted to continue this growth for many years in the future.
The rules, laws and operating procedures for running an online business have been tightened up recently in some countries and could possibly even tighten-up more, but this will not stop the growth of the internet for many years to come if at all.
So, have you figured it out yet?
OK, let me help you out. The #1 reason most of the people that start a business on the internet fail is, they never get started and build their first website.
Many of those that do take this essential first step don’t have the knowledge needed to create a good, functional business website. Either this or they hire a website designer that doesn’t understand the psychology behind online direct response marketing and online selling.
Whatever you do don’t let this put you off because the path to online success is learning through failing. It’s really all about taking action …and the first step is to create your own website.
There are many, many reasons why a website might not sell…
The main component that seems to be missing on most websites is good content about what it is that they are promoting.
I’m sure you’ve seen them before, they’re the websites with too many bells and whistles, too many interruptions, and no direct calls to action. In fact these kind of websites want you to visit every link they give you, all except the ones that really count. Click here to order or click here to subscribe.
Some don’t know how to use color, they use color body copy on color background, which makes everything run together, or they will use a black background and white type, which makes it very difficult to read and people just click off the site without reading much at all.
To be honest we could probably spend all day talking about the reasons why websites fail to sell, but I would much rather tell you how to solve this problem…
Here’s an article I recently wrote called: “17 essential “big selling” website strategies“ where you’ll find some great selling strategies. Apply as many of them to your website as you can and I’m certain you’ll begin to see the success your website deserves.

Great post, Brian. Yes, not having a web site and not keeping it focused are two reasons that many sites “fail”, although I think if a person has set up a site, they are still quite far along the path to making money… they’ve just got to figure out how to convert those visitors into customers.
Hello Paul, thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.
You’re absolutely right conversion comes next.
